✓ Data Transparency

Every number is real, sourced, and fresh.

We don't serve benchmark data without knowing exactly where it came from, when it was last verified, and how confident we are in it.

How Confidence Scores Work

Confidence scores aren't subjective. They're calculated from two inputs: source tier and data age.

Source Tier (Base Confidence)

100%
Government / Regulatory
90%
Major Research Firm
80%
Industry Reports
70%
Aggregated / Multi-Source
60%
Single Commercial Source
50%
Self-Reported Data

Age Decay

When a source misses its scheduled refresh, confidence decays by 10% per missed period.

  • Quarterly source, 3 months overdue → -10%
  • Quarterly source, 6 months overdue → -20%
  • Annual source, 2 years old → -10%
  • Confidence never drops below 20% (floor)

Example: A government source (100%) that's 2 quarterly periods overdue scores 80%.

Status Colors

Status is based on how far past the scheduled refresh date a source is — independent of confidence score.

Current Within refresh cadence
Refresh Pending 1 missed period
Stale 2+ missed periods

Auto-Detection

Weekly automated checks hit every source URL. If the source page changes (different last-modified header), it's flagged for manual review — so refreshes happen faster.

  • Source returns 404 → flagged unavailable, confidence drops to 30%
  • Page content changed → admin notified for refresh
  • Source recovers → unavailable flag cleared automatically

Auto-Degradation Policy

When a source goes stale, we flag it — we don't serve bad data silently. Here's exactly what happens at each level:
